Winfield, IL is a village located in DuPage County, Illinois. It has a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century.

The area that is now Winfield was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Potawatomi. In the early 1830s, European settlers began arriving in the area. One of the first pioneers to settle in what is now Winfield was Erastus Gary in 1833. He built a log cabin near St. John's Creek, which attracted more settlers to the area.

In 1850, the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad built a line through the village, which brought more growth and development. The railroad made Winfield a transportation hub and helped the village prosper. The first train arrived in Winfield in 1853.

Winfield was officially incorporated as a village in 1921. Its name was derived from Winfield Scott, a United States Army general and presidential candidate from the 19th century.
