In 1913, Ransom E. Olds purchased a large tract of land in what is now Oldsmar with the intention of establishing a manufacturing plant for his REO Motor Car Company. However, due to financial difficulties and World War I, the plans for the manufacturing plant were scrapped, and the land was eventually sold.

Oldsmar continued to grow as a farming community, specializing in the production of citrus fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. In 1927, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad constructed a station in Oldsmar, boosting the city's accessibility and facilitating trade.
