History

Kenneth City, Florida

Kenneth City is a small town located in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. It was incorporated on May 6, 1957, and is one of the youngest towns in the state.

The area where Kenneth City is now situated was primarily farmland until the 1920s when it was subdivided for residential development. The land was owned by Charles Kenneth Williams, a Detroit real estate developer, who saw the potential for creating a suburban community.

In 1952, Williams sold the land to a corporation called Kenneth Industrial Village, Inc. The corporation, made up of five individuals, purchased the land with the intention of developing an industrial park. However, their plans didn't materialize, and they decided to instead create a residential community. They went on to purchase additional tracts of land to expand the area, and named it Kenneth City in honor of Charles Kenneth Williams.

The town's incorporation in 1957 came about as a response to some residents' desire for local control over zoning laws and police services. They wanted to prevent the annexation of their community by neighboring cities like St. Petersburg. As a result, Kenneth City became an independent municipality.

In the early years, Kenneth City experienced rapid growth with the construction of numerous single-family homes and apartment complexes. The town attracted many retirees and young families looking for affordable housing options near the beaches and attractions of Pinellas County.

Over the years, Kenneth City has continued to grow and develop. The town has maintained a small-town atmosphere while providing essential services to its residents. It has a council-manager form of government, with elected council members overseeing the direction of the town.

Today, Kenneth City remains a quiet residential community with a population of approximately 5,000 people. It offers various amenities, including local parks and recreational facilities, shopping centers, and access to nearby beaches and cultural attractions. The town continues to be an attractive option for those seeking affordable housing in the heart of Pinellas County.
