History

World Golf Village, Florida

World Golf Village is a unique community located in St. Johns County, Florida, about 30 minutes south of Downtown Jacksonville. It was developed as a result of a collaboration between the PGA Tour and the Richard W. Goldman Family.

The idea for World Golf Village came about in the 1990s when the PGA Tour decided to establish a permanent home for its Hall of Fame. The PGA Tour sought a location that would not only showcase the history of golf but also provide a world-class golfing destination. After an extensive search, they chose a site in St. Johns County, near Jacksonville.

Construction on World Golf Village began in 1995, and the first phase of development opened in 1998. The centerpiece of the community is the World Golf Hall of Fame, which opened its doors in May 1998. The Hall of Fame features various exhibits and memorabilia from the world of golf, honoring the sport's greatest players and contributors.

Alongside the Hall of Fame, several golf courses were built within the community, including the King & Bear and Slammer & Squire courses. These courses were designed by some of the game's biggest legends, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead, and Gene Sarazen.
