County: Clearfield
History
Treasure Lake, Pennsylvania is a private residential community located in Sandy Township, Clearfield County. The history of Treasure Lake can be traced back to the early 1960s when it was developed as a recreational haven.
In the 1950s, the area where Treasure Lake is now located was relatively undeveloped and consisted mostly of farmland and forests. In 1965, the Columbia Gas Development Corporation, a subsidiary of Columbia Gas Systems, saw the potential for creating a private recreational community in this beautiful area. They purchased thousands of acres of land for development.
The development of Treasure Lake began shortly after the purchase, with the construction of a large dam on the North Fork of the Sandy Lick Creek. This dam created two interconnected lakes, Treasure Lake and Little Flipper Lake. These lakes became the centerpiece of the community and are still popular for boating, fishing, and other water activities.
The next step in the development process was the construction of a championship golf course. The first nine holes of the Gold Golf Course were completed in 1967, followed by the addition of an additional nine holes in 1969. Today, Treasure Lake boasts two challenging 18-hole golf courses, attracting golfers from near and far.
The residential development within Treasure Lake didn't begin until the early 1970s. Diverse housing options were built, ranging from single-family homes to townhouses and condominiums. The community also features amenities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, a marina, campgrounds, and parks, providing recreational opportunities for residents.
Over the years, Treasure Lake has continued to grow and evolve. Additional amenities have been added, including a second marina, a ski slope, and a lodge for events and social gatherings. There are now approximately 2,100 homes within the community, making it a vibrant and close-knit residential area.
Treasure Lake has become a popular destination for both year-round residents and vacationers looking to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities it offers. The community emphasizes a family-friendly atmosphere and a wide range of activities, making it an appealing place to live or visit.
