History
Spearman is a small city located in Hansford County, Texas, United States. The area where Spearman is situated was originally inhabited by Comanche and Kiowa Native American tribes. In the late 19th century, European settlers began to arrive in the region.
The city of Spearman was established in 1907 when the North Texas and Santa Fe Railway laid tracks through the area. The town was named after Thomas E. Spearman, a vice president of the railroad company. The establishment of the railroad helped spur economic growth in the area, as it brought in new settlers and facilitated transportation of goods.
The early economy in Spearman was primarily based on agriculture and cattle ranching. The fertile land surrounding the city allowed for the cultivation of various crops, including cotton, wheat, corn, and milo. In addition, the cattle industry played a significant role in the region's economy, with numerous ranches being established.
