History
Saraland is a city located in Mobile County, Alabama. The area that now makes up Saraland was first settled in the early 19th century, primarily by farmers and planters who were drawn to the region's fertile soil. The community that would later become Saraland was primarily known as either "magazine" or "station" due to its location near a gunpowder magazine and a railway station. In 1902, the community was officially incorporated as "Saraland." The name is said to have been suggested by a local doctor, Dr. C.W. Hinson, who combined the first letters of the names of his wife, Sara, and their oldest child, Nellie.
