History

Pecan Grove, Texas

Pecan Grove is a suburban community located in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. Originally settled by Stephen F. Austin's Austin's Old Three Hundred, the area was part of a Mexican land grant in the early 19th century. It was primarily an agricultural community until the 1960s when the urbanization of nearby Houston began to expand into the area.

The farming community in Pecan Grove was initially focused on cotton production, and later shifted to sugar cane. The fertile soil and proximity to the Brazos River made the area suitable for agricultural activities. However, as Houston's population grew, so did the pressure for expansion.

In the mid-1980s, developer Johnson Development Corporation purchased the land and began developing the area into a planned community. The focus shifted from agriculture to residential housing. The community was named Pecan Grove due to the abundance of pecan trees in the area.

Pecan Grove quickly grew, and it incorporated as a Municipal Utility District (MUD) in 1982, allowing the community to provide its own services such as water and sewage. The neighborhood offers various amenities, including a golf course, community clubhouse, and swimming pool.

Today, Pecan Grove is a thriving suburban community with a population of over 15,000 residents. It is known for its well-maintained homes, lush landscapes, and family-friendly atmosphere. The area continues to attract residents due to its proximity to Houston and the excellent quality of life it offers.
