History

Marquette Heights, Illinois is a small city located in Tazewell County. Its history is relatively short, as the area was incorporated as a city in 1957.

In the early 1900s, the land where Marquette Heights now stands belonged to a man named Dr. Frederick A. Young. He owned a large area of land, which included the present-day Marquette Heights and the neighboring town of Creve Coeur. Dr. Young used the land primarily for farming.

In the 1920s, the area started to see some development. The construction of the nearby Illinois State Highway 29 (which is now Route 29) increased the accessibility of the land and attracted people to settle in the area. The first house built in what is now Marquette Heights was constructed in 1922.

Over the next few decades, more people began to move to the area. The population grew steadily, and it became more of a suburban community. In the 1950s, the residents of Marquette Heights began to consider incorporating as a city. On June 19, 1957, an election was held, and the residents voted in favor of incorporating. Marquette Heights officially became a city on July 2, 1957.
