Manteno is a village located in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. Its history dates back to the early 19th century when the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Potawatomi. The name Manteno is believed to have been derived from Mantinengo, a Potawatomi chief.

Following the Indian Removal Act of 1830, many Potawatomi were relocated westward, and European settlers began to move into the area. The arrival of the Illinois Central Railroad in the mid-19th century played a significant role in the development of the village.
