Lakemoor is a village located in Lake County, Illinois, United States. The area where Lakemoor now stands was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Potawatomi, Fox, and Ottawa. European settlement of the region began in the early 19th century, with the arrival of pioneers and settlers.

The region went through several name changes before becoming known as Lakemoor. Initially, the area was called "Millburn" in the 1840s, named after a sawmill that was established along the Mill Creek. In the 1850s, the region was renamed "Lakeside" due to its proximity to the Fox Lake, Pistakee Lake, and Nippersink Lake. However, confusion arose with another town named Lakeside in Illinois, leading to another name change.

In 1922, a developer named Archibald J. MacKinnon purchased a large tract of land in the area and organized it as a subdivision, which he called "Lakemoor." MacKinnon designed Lakemoor as a recreational community, complete with a small amusement park, a swimming beach, and boating facilities on the nearby Chain o' Lakes.
