Fort Thomas, Kentucky is a city located in Campbell County, on the southeastern side of the state. The history of Fort Thomas dates back to the late 19th century when it was established as a military installation.

In 1887, the U.S. Army established a military post on the site of what is now Fort Thomas. Initially called Camp Coppinger, the post was established to protect the Cincinnati, Newport, and Covington area from potential threats during the time of the Mexican border troubles and the Spanish-American War. The camp was later renamed Fort Thomas in honor of Civil War General George H. Thomas.
