History

Crestview Hills, Kentucky

Crestview Hills, Kentucky is a small city located in Kenton County, within the northern part of the state. The history of Crestview Hills dates back to the early 20th century, when the area was primarily rural and agricultural.

In 1926, the area where Crestview Hills now stands was bought by Crestview Land Company, which was founded by John C. O'Hara and Charles Cook. They intended to develop the land into a suburban community. The original idea was for a neighborhood with fine homes, parks, and a country club.

The Great Depression, however, slowed down the development of Crestview Hills. It wasn't until the late 1940s that significant progress was made. In 1946, Thomas Wildey, the president of Western-Southern Life Insurance Company, took over the Crestview Land Company and pushed forward with the development plans.

Wildey brought in renowned architect Matthew Mueller to design Crestview Hills. Mueller envisioned a suburban community with a planned and cohesive aesthetic. He transformed the original plans into a more modern design, featuring ranch-style homes, winding streets, and green spaces.

Crestview Hills officially became a city in 1962. It continued to grow slowly over the next few decades. In the 1990s, the Crestview Hills Town Center, a high-end shopping center, was built. This development further established Crestview Hills as a desirable residential area.

Today, Crestview Hills is a well-established city known for its leafy streets, picturesque homes, and strong community spirit. It is home to Thomas More University, a small liberal arts college with a beautiful campus. The city also boasts numerous parks, including Notre Dame Park and Crestview Hills City Park, providing residents with ample recreational opportunities.

Despite its growth and development, Crestview Hills has successfully maintained its charm and small-town atmosphere. It continues to attract residents who appreciate its scenic beauty, convenient location, and strong sense of community.
