History

Bayside, Wisconsin

Bayside is a small village located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Its history dates back to the mid-19th century when several families settled in the area. The first settler, Alexander Mitchell, established a large estate named "Villa Carabelli" in what is now Bayside in 1843. Mitchell was a prominent banker and railroad executive in Milwaukee.

Over time, more families started to settle near Mitchell's estate, and the area began to grow. In 1855, a lumber mill was established along the Milwaukee River, which attracted more settlers to the area. The village was originally known as "Schlitz Audubon" in reference to the iconic Schlitz brewery, which owned substantial land in the region. However, in 1953, the village was officially incorporated as Bayside.

Throughout its history, Bayside developed into an affluent suburban community known for its beautiful homes and lush landscapes. The village retained its natural setting, with several parks and green spaces, particularly along the Lake Michigan shoreline, which greatly adds to its charm.

Today, Bayside is a predominantly residential village with a population of around 4,500 residents. It is renowned for its strong community spirit and high-quality education system, provided by the highly regarded Fox Point-Bayside School District.

Bayside's proximity to Milwaukee, approximately 10 miles north of downtown, allows residents to enjoy the amenities of a larger city while still savoring the peacefulness of a suburban environment. The village's commitment to preservation and careful planning has helped it maintain its rural character, making Bayside an attractive place to live for many individuals and families.
